Hall, Blake & Associates, Inc. (HBA) is a multi-based consulting firm. Formed in 1976 under the name of Mid-Continent Technical Associates, it was established to provide an administrative umbrella under which a group of senior engineers and scientists could pool their expertise and provide a service not available in the general area.
Shortly after Mid-Continent Technical Associates was organized, a state-of-the art laboratory was developed to enable the analysis and accuracy required to effectively utilize the highly skilled associates. When it was originally developed, the laboratory had the capacity to perform both chemical and geotechnical testing. As time passed, however, it was found that a double-duty laboratory did not effectively serve the intended purpose. At that time, the chemical testing section was acquired by a local testing firm. The geotechnical part of the laboratory remains with HBA.

Along with the laboratory, HBA developed a drilling division with the required personnel and equipment to investigate and sample with the precision required to maximize the capability of the technical associates. As time passed, the number of skilled engineers, scientists and technicians who wished to work under the umbrella grew to the point that a very large support staff was required. At the present time, the support staff for the associates exceeds 50. These are senior and staff engineers, geologists, chemists, technicians, and clerical personnel.

Dr. Kenneth M. Hall (1932 – 2002) and John J. Blake (USACE retired) founded this company with the vision that excellence in engineering created the foundation by which a premier Geotechnical Engineering firm could emerge. Under the leadership of Dr. Hall, HBA has grown into a multi-million dollar corporation with offices in Memphis, Nashville and Hernando, MS. HBA’s history of projects include 15 states and 5 countries.

Throughout the years HBA has maintained that internal quality control was the essence of a job well done. HBA maintains $2,000,000 in professional liability insurance to assure our clients of our commitment.

HBA embraces emerging technologies to handle the project requirements of our clients. Corporate and personal memberships are held with ASCE, SAME, NSPE, ASNT, AWA, AAPG, ASTM, TRMCA and AIA.
